Last Days

My Father has battled this monster for almost 10 yrs now. My Mom deserves
the award for best caregiver of the decade as he has been home with her the entire time. He has been in stage 3-4 for over a year now and his body has
said enough is enough. On Sunday of last week was the last time he had food
and last Monday since he has had any liquid. I was always told 3 days without
water and you are not going to survive. After doing some research that is not
the case - you can go 10 days or more-. Today his kidneys shut down which
means toxins with no where where to go. Anyone that has experienced their
loved ones in this situation please respond. Will this be quick once the kidneys
shut down? He has had no morphine until today when Hospice gave it to him
from the emergency kit. He has been "euphoric" for a couple of days now.

Hi Jefftop,

I am so sorry that you and your family are going throught this difficult time. My mom passed in May. She stopped eating for about 10 days and her water comsumption had slowed to very little for about three days when her kidneys began to shut down. Her kidneys basically stopped working on Thursday night, at that time she chose to go to the hospital and she was given morphine to relax her. She went to sleep. As she slept, her breathing slowed, and she passed very peacefully early Sunday morning. I hope your Dad's passing is as peaceful. My heart goes out to you and your family and I will keep you in my prayers.

Thank you Bonnie. My dad passed very peacefully last night, the morphine was
able to calm his labored breathing. It has been a long journey with this horrible
disease. I hope someday PSP will be conquered, my heart goes out to all
that have loved ones that have died of this disease.

Jeff: I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. I totally understand what you went through and only wish no one else would ever go down this horrible journey. I'm thankful his passing was peaceful. If you need us, we will be here for you.
