Possibility of future NIH drug study of PSP and Lithium...

Postby Lorainemarie » Thu Mar 06, 2008 9:19 am

This is very tentative. There was a positive study using Lithium on ALS patients. As a result there is movement toward a Lithium study with PSP. ALS and PSP are not directly related and Lithium has side effects so it isn't time to celebrate, but it is hopeful. Robin posted it on the general PSP board:

Based upon the general "feeling" in the medical community, my neurologist has suggested that I begin taking low dose Lithium as part of daily regimen. He said that there is enough evidence to show that Lithium may be helpful.

Has anyone else had their MD suggest this?

morf,

As you can see from this post
http://forum.psp.org/viewtopic.php?t=7229
there is an NIH study of lithium in PSP and CBD, and people are participating in this study.

Unfortunately Hobbs' mother was released from the study. See:
