Postby Robin » Mon Sep 17, 2012 11:02 pm

To all those in Northern California and on the west coast:

Registration is now open for the Atypical Parkinsonism Symposium (PSP, CBS/CBD, MSA, DLB) on Saturday 10/13 from 8am to 5pm at Crowne Plaza SFO in Burlingame! This event is being organized by members of the local support group along with other local organizations. We have top researchers for PSP, CBS/CBD, and MSA lined up to speak -- including world-famous Dr. Irene Litvan. This is an event not to be missed!

For those in our local support group and any families dealing with a diagnosis of PSP, CBS/CBD, MSA, or DLB, the registration deadline is Friday 10/5, 11:59pm. Registration is $50/person and includes continental breakfast and a delicious hot lunch. There is no registration at the door.

Anyone dealing with an atypical parkinsonism disorder -- those with a diagnosis, caregivers, family members, friends -- is invited to attend.

For details on the great line-up of speakers and the agenda, see:

Registration is online only. If you need help registering, please let me know.

GREAT SPEAKERS!

The morning's speakers are world experts and US experts on the four atypical parkinsonism disorders.

The keynote speaker is Irene Litvan, MD. Dr. Litvan is the Director of the UC San Diego Movement Disorder Program. She has more than 25 years of experience in movement disorders, adult neurology, and psychiatry. She is the principal investigator behind the NIH-funded genetics and environmental study of PSP, and she co-authored the PSP clinical diagnostic criteria. She is one of the few clinicians with expertise in CBS/CBD.

Read about all of the day's speakers and get a link to the agenda here:

After Dr. Litvan's keynote, we will divide up by disorder. Of course, Dr. Litvan will give the talk about CBS/CBD. Dr. Adam Boxer, the principal investigator of the worldwide Davunetide trial, will give the talk about PSP. Dr. Kathleen Poston, the only Bay Area neurologist who has published research on MSA, will give the talk on MSA.

We will only videotape this event if we can find an organization or individual who can pay the cost of the videographer(s) and editing.

See you in October!

Robin

PS. Please let the professionals you come into contact with know about this symposium as we think it's critical they receive world-class education on these disorders. Registration is also open for professionals interested in continuing education units or professional development units. CEUs or PDUs have been approved or are pending for these credentials -- LCSW, MFT, RN, CNA/HHA, NHA, RCFE Administrator, and OT. The fees and deadlines will be slightly different. Sorry - we were unable to arrange for PT, SLP, or PSYCH CEUs for this event. Registration for professionals starts here:

CurePSP paid for the videotaping of this event. I believe DVDs will be available next month.
