Continuing PT and Medicare

Postby zymurgy » Mon Dec 05, 2016 3:58 pm

A Physical Therapist told me today that there is a new rule for continuing Medicare coverage of physical therapy. If continuing therapy is denied by your insurance company you can file an immediate appeal within 48 hours. You must say that stopping care will cause the patient to regress and is a medical necessity, and that the treatment will mitigate the patient’s risk of suffering an even worse outcome if the current condition is left untreated.. I gather the primary goal now is to try and keep people out of the hospital  .

Not really sure this is accurate as far as Medicare goes. There are Medicare laws about physical therapy but never heard of any 48 hour appeal rule.
